Contact with the staff was exemplary from the very start — every arrangement, wish and detail was fully met, and Mr Leszek took care of every detail with tremendous commitment and warmth.
The surprise itself turned out beautifully, and the guests were delighted — both by the atmosphere of the place and by the delicious food, which was of the highest standard. The live music wonderfully rounded off the mood and made the evening unforgettable.
From the bottom of our hearts we thank the whole Gruby Josek team — this is a place you want to come back to! With a clear conscience I recommend it to anyone looking for a unique space with soul and great food.

★★★★★A really pleasant place. We were there for a friends’ joint 40th birthday, in a separate part of the room. The pluses certainly include the traditional Polish menu available as part of the party: sour rye soup or chicken broth for the soup, and for the main course a choice of breaded pork chop, cod, pork tenderloin, duck leg or cauliflower in batter. For dessert, cheesecake and apple pie.
Among the starters, the standouts were: a delicious tartare, herring “under a duvet”, jellied pig’s trotters, a charcuterie board and a mixed salad with beetroot. The sour rye soup was very good — properly sour, with sausage, egg and bacon. The duck with cranberry turned out tender, the cabbage excellent, and the dumplings perfectly matched. The cheesecake was very creamy and the apple pie full of apples.
The service was professional and very helpful, which further added to the positive impressions of the visit.
The décor is also a big plus — newspapers on the walls in a typically Polish style, e.g. the interwar “Kurier” (unlike “Szwejk”, where the vibe is distinctly Czech). The atmosphere was further enhanced by a Warsaw band playing well-known old hits.
